PhD Studentship: Supramolecular Chemistry of MOFs and Rotaxanes

University of Birmingham – School of Chemistry

Qualification Type:PhD
Location:Birmingham
Funding for:UK Students, EU Students, International Students
Funding amount:Funding available
Hours:Full Time
Placed On:10th April 2022
Closes:4th May 2022
The PhD project will focus on the incorporation of rotaxanes, and mechanically-interlocked molecules, into metal-organic framework (MOF) materials. This is an exciting new direction which builds upon expertise in the Champness research group in both rotaxanes and in MOFs. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work at the forefront of two highly topical fields and to gain experience in a variety of scientific skills. The project will involve both organic and inorganic synthesis accompanied by a range of analytical techniques including NMR, single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction as well as electron microscopy. The PhD project will also have the opportunity to be trained and to use the groups own single crystal X-ray diffractometer and EPR spectrometer as required.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Prof. Neil R. Champness, Email: n.champness@bham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
